Attila Szasz

A highly qualified and renowned cellist, Attila Szasz has performed worldwide and continues to inspire audiences and students alike with an innovative approach to his craft.

Growing up in a small town in Transylvania, Romania, Attila’s instructors recognized his gift for music at an early age, and encouraged him to attend the prestigious Dr. Palló Imre Visual and Performing Arts High School. At age 16 – after already performing with the Szeklerland Symphonic Orchestra in Romania – he entered his first national string competition and placed in the top five.

Romania’s University of Oradea granted Attila a full scholarship to pursue a dual Bachelor’s Degree in Cello Performance and Cello Education, followed by a second scholarship, earning him a Master’s Degree in Chamber Music. Rising to the top of his class, he achieved recognition for performances in the Oradea State Philharmonic and Szeklerland Symphonic Orchestra and Quartet – both based in Romania.

Attila has traveled the world as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestra member. He was the principal cellist in the Pommersfelden Music Festival orchestra in Germany and achieved acclaim for his solo and chamber performances in Hungary and Switzerland. In addition, he was committed to musical education in Romania – serving as a cello instructor at the Nagy Istvan Visual and Performing Arts High School and the Dr. Palló Imre Visual and Performing Arts High School.

Attila’s talents earned him an invitation to attend West Chester University of Pennsylvania, where he was granted yet another full scholarship to pursue a second Master’s degree in Cello Performance. While there, he served as Principal Cellist of the West Chester University Symphony Orchestra. He also traveled with the Camerata Philadelphia to China and was later appointed Principal Cellist of the Altoona Symphony Orchestra.

Today, Attila continues to receive accolades for his talent and commitment to cello performance and education. As an instructor, he has prepared students for a variety of auditions and events. Many of his students have acquired distinguished positions, such as principal cellist in local orchestras, and have been awarded national competition first prizes. In addition, Attila’s students have performed at prestigious venues, such as Carnegie Hall, and are regularly admitted to the world’s leading universities and music schools.

Aside from teaching at Attila Szasz Cello Studio in Cary, NC, Attila continues to perform locally with a variety of groups and ensembles, such as Strings and Keys.
